Consistent Performances Leads to Top 10 Overall Finish

Sunday, March 6th marked the end of the UPL Season. Chris and Mike went into the Big Marine Tournament sitting in 11th place overall in the standings. The Saturday prefishing was above average and the team felt fairly confident with their game plan.

The first point of attack was an underwater sand bar located in the middle of the lake. The team had found crappies and gills mixed in depths of 9 to 12 feet of water the previous day. On tournament morning, the team manged to bag 5 crappies in the first 5 minutes of the competition. As quickly as they struck, the bite died and the team went on the search.

After an hour of nothing, the team made a half mile move to the north. Chris and Mike fished 6 to 9 feet of water on a weed bed and managed to fill their limit by 11: 00 a.m. The rest of the day was spent trying to upsize the fish in the weigh-in bucket. Mike had a 10.5 inch crappie break free at the top of the hole, but he managed to catch it with both hands elbow deep in the hole. Chris hooked up with a 9" hybrid sunfish that weighed in at over a half pound!

At weigh in, the team was met with mixed review from the other teams. 16 teams were able to make their limit, but the other 14 really struggled. Due to the varying levels of success, Team You Betcha! Outdoors finished in 11th place with just over 6 pounds. This made for a third straight top half finish in the season. Their consistent performances led them to an 8th place overall standing in the team points for the year. Chris and Mike are very pleased with their season and feel like they have continued to improve their skills.

The warm weather seems to be here to stay and the ice season will be wrapping up very soon. Stay tuned as You Betcha! Outdoors makes the change to open water season!
